Experience the Unusual
Excelsa Gardens grows plants that you won’t find at your average nursery. Mark, Susan and Colin Friedrich are the owners of Excelsa which is located on 30 acres in Loxahatchee, Florida. “We provide a broad range of quality exotic and unusual plant varieties as well as many of the classic favorites”, explains the family. The taste for breathtaking tropicals was acquired while Mark worked at Fairchild Botanic Garden in Miami in 1980. Excelsa Gardens was established in 1990 and was quickly recognized as the place to obtain the “out of the ordinary” cultivars. Plants such as heliconias, gingers, bananas, palms, alocasias, ferns, bromeliads and orchids to name a few are grown to perfection.

Excelsa Gardens’ day to day operations are centered on building relationships with our customers. We strive to make our customers vision become a reality. We can help design, source, give suggestions for sun or shade applications, and we make sure that our customers are comfortable with the care required for their new plant material.

    Save the Earth
Here at Excelsa Gardens we have diligently updated our growing practices to conserve our planets resources. We use biocontrol for insect and disease management, as well as, natural chemicals for the difficult pestilence issues. Aqua drip mats, drip irrigation and capillary mats have been installed throughout our 30 acres of shade houses in an effort to conserve water. Water is directed to the roots therefore avoiding overhead sprinklers. The majority of our plants are grown on benches which allow for better aeration promoting maximum growth. Excelsa’s greenhouses and shadehouses are climate controlled through computerized, automated controls. Not to worry the human touch is always checking.
